Special Education Programs
Special Education Services at Vista High School
At Vista High School, we are committed to supporting the unique needs of all learners through personalized, inclusive, and goal-oriented educational experiences.
Every student in our Special Education Program has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) — a personalized plan developed through an educational assessment that identifies significant learning challenges.
IEPs are created for students who may struggle in traditional academic settings due to learning disabilities, developmental delays, or emotional and behavioral needs. Each plan outlines specific, measurable goals and objectives tailored to the student’s strengths and areas for growth, ensuring meaningful progress in both academics and life skills.
To best serve our students, we offer three distinct Special Education programs:
Resource Specialist Program (RSP)
The RSP provides Specialized Academic Instruction for students who need targeted support to succeed in the general education curriculum. Instruction may take place in a separate resource room or within the general education classroom, based on the student’s needs and the IEP team’s recommendation.
Special Day Class (SDC)
Our SDC program offers intensive, individualized instruction for students whose needs require a more structured learning environment. This program is designed for students whose disabilities make it challenging to participate in a general education classroom for most or all of the school day.
Adult Transition Program (ATP)
Vista’s Adult Transition Program supports students with special needs ages 18–22 who have completed their high school credits but require additional preparation for adult life. The program emphasizes:
-
Independent living skills
-
Vocational training
-
Community-based instruction
-
Life and job-readiness skills
Through hands-on learning and individualized plans, ATP helps students build confidence, gain real-world experience, and prepare for employment, continued education, or supported living.
We are proud to empower every student to reach their full potential—academically, socially, and beyond.
