Dual Enrollment

Real-World Experience, College Credit, and Career Readiness

At Vista Continuation High School, students are getting a head start on their futures through a powerful new partnership with Compton College. For the first time, Vista students are earning free college credit while gaining hands-on training in a high-demand career field — welding — through a unique dual enrollment opportunity.

“We offer these opportunities because we know the traditional academic pathway isn’t the right fit for every student,” said Principal Ramon Enriquez. “By tapping into their skills, they develop self-esteem and motivation, and that often leads to higher education. It keeps them engaged in school and it keeps them coming to school.”

How It Works

Vista students are transported to Compton College after school, where they attend Introduction to Welding alongside currently enrolled college students. The course provides real-world technical skills in a collaborative, hands-on environment and prepares students for immediate employment in the welding industry.

“One thing I like about this class is that we go straight into hands-on work, learning about the machines and how they function,” - Vista High Student Jandel Alanis
